Christie Olsen, Nurse Practitioner
Christie came to Women’s Health motivated by the fact that women are a key part of every family and working directly with women can not only improve their quality of life, but also indirectly influence the health and well-being of the woman’s family. What better place for her than Wisconsin Fertility Institute, where our expertise is utilized to create and expand families.
She finished her Bachelor’s with honors at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, CA in 1997 and worked for a few years in the non-profit sector in the area of women’s health. Inspired by the Nurse Practitioners she worked with during that time, she went back to school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for her Bachelor’s in Nursing and her Master’s Degree in Nursing, with an emphasis in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Following her Master’s Degree, she moved to Madison, WI to begin her practice. Before diving into full-time work, she lived in Ecuador for 3 months, doing a full immersion Spanish Language Program in Cuenca, Ecuador, where she perfected her Spanish-speaking skills in the mornings with a tutor and volunteered in the afternoons at a free-standing birth center. With this experience, she is able to provide comprehensive care for our Spanish-speaking patients at Wisconsin Fertility Institute.
Upon her return from Ecuador, she began work in Reproductive Gynecology at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, focusing on preventative gynecology, contraception, STD screening, education, and treatment, and conception counseling. She also managed miscarriages and provided prenatal counseling and education. During this time, she completed additional training in colposcopy and men’s reproductive health care. She also gained invaluable experience in gynecologic and early ultrasound, performing over 1,000 ultrasounds per year.
In 2007, she moved to Wisconsin Fertility Institute to practice with Dr. Pritts and Dr. Olive. Some of the reasons our patients love working with Christie: her thorough explanations, openness, honest patient/provider relationships, and caring nature.
Her role at Wisconsin Fertility Institute includes: new patient consults, ultrasound, intrauterine insemination, patient education, and assistance with procedures. She, along with the help of Marissa Eisner, runs the Third Party Reproduction Program at Wisconsin Fertility. She guides, screens, and monitors patients as they go through the processes of egg donation, sperm donation, surrogacy, as well as donating and receiving donated embryos. As a Nurse Practitioner licensed in the State of Wisconsin, she is able to prescribe medications, order tests, and diagnose. She also takes after-hours call on occasion.
For new patients considering seeing Christie, she specializes in:
- same sex female couples seeking donor sperm insemination
- Spanish-speaking patients who are having difficulty conceiving
- patients preferring to focus on natural and alternative therapies as adjuncts to their fertility treatment
- patients considering oral medications for the first time as part of their fertility treatment
- patient who are planning on using egg donors, gestational carriers, or sperm donor as part of their treatment
- patients who are just beginning to consider conception and would like more information
Ask the receptionist to schedule your new patient consult with Christie.
